1. It was one of his MMA coaches in Montana who nicknamed him ‘Sugar’ at the start of his career.
2. For the first 5 fights of his career, Sean O’Malley fought in his native Montana and then left to fight in North Dakota. Afterward, he fought for Legacy Fighting Alliance where he got a highlight-reel knockout over David Nuzzo. Following the victory, he earned a spot on Dana White‘s Contender Series 2 when he took on Alfred Khashakyan. After defeating Khashakyan with a stunning knockout in the first round, he was awarded a UFC contract.
3. On December 1, 2017, he made his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut against Terrion Ware at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale. He went on to win the fight via unanimous decision.
4. At UFC 222 on March 3, 2018, he faced Andre Soukhamthath and won the fight by unanimous decision, despite injuring his foot in the third round. Both participants earned a Fight of the Night bonus.

Reportedly, the ostarine in his system was likely residual from his previously failed test prior to UFC 229.
8. On December 12, 2019, he competed at Quintet: Ultra as a member of Team UFC and went on to submit Takanori Gomi with a guillotine choke in his opening round of the tournament. However, Sean was subsequently submitted by Héctor Lombard with an ankle-lock. As the team advanced to the next round and faced Team Strikeforce, Sean went to a draw with former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez and both got eliminated from the round. Team UFC ended up as the winner of the tournament.
9. At UFC 248, he faced José Alberto Quiñónez on March 7, 2020, and won the fight via TKO in the first round. With this win, he secured his first Performance of the Night award.
10. On June 6, 2020, Sean O’Malley faced former WEC Bantamweight Champion Eddie Wineland at UFC 250 and won the fight via one-punch knockout in the first round, earning the Performance of the Night bonus.
11. On August 15, 2020, he faced Marlon Vera in the co-main event of UFC 252. He lost the fight via TKO in round one and was later diagnosed with a drop foot resulting from a leg kick landed by Vera.
12. At UFC 280 on October 22, 2022, he faced Petr Yan and won the bout via a split decision.
