  1. Growing up, he used to work in his father’s glass-cutting business and later continued it with his brothers after his father’s death.
  2. When he was younger, Vadivelu used to participate in local stage plays, usually in a comic role.
  3. For his role as Sekar in the 1996 Tamil-language comedy film Kaalam Maari Pochu, he won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for “Best Comedian”.
  4. In 2008, Vadivelu appeared as ‘Kanduvetti’ Karuppu in the Tamil action comedy-drama film Kathavarayan and this role won him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for “Best Comedian”.
  5. He co-starred as Banner-Kuppan (Bannerji) in the 2009 Tamil-language action-comedy film Aadhavan, loosely based on the 1990 Malayalam movie His Highness Abdullah. For this role, Vadivelu was nominated for a Filmfare Award for “Best Supporting Actor – Tamil” and Vijay Award for “Best Comedian”.
  6. He co-starred as Style Pandi in the 2010 Tamil-language action-comedy film Nagaram Marupakkam (also known as Nagaram), a role that got him nominated for a Vijay Award for “Best Comedian”.
  7. His nickname “Vaigai Puyal” was coined by the media and is a reference to the river that flows through his hometown Madurai.
  8. Vadivelu appeared as Ammavasai in the 2011 Tamil-language romantic comedy action film Kaavalan, a remake of the Malayalam film Bodyguard. This performance got him nominated for a Vijay Award as well as a SIIMA Award in the “Best Comedian” category.
  9. He has been typecast as many of his on-screen characters involve heavy use of slapstick and puns.
  10. In 2018, the Tamil Film Producers Council issued a ban against casting Vadivelu in future films.
  11. Vadivelu announced his comeback on Twitter in 2020, stating, “You’ve also been asking why I’m not acting yet. Soon, I will make my entry in a grand manner”.
  12. Many of his dialogs have served as the inspiration for various memes in social media.
