He is also credited with bringing country music away from the pop-country era of the 1980s and back to its traditional roots. - Norma Voss (1971–Present) – George had eloped to Mexico, in 1971, with his high school sweetheart Norma Voss. While there, they got married on December 4, 1971. They had 2 children together – a daughter named Jenifer Lynn Strait (b. October 6, 1972) and a son named George Strait Jr. aka Bubba (b. 1981). Jenifer was killed in a car accident in San Marcos, Texas, on June 25, 1986, when she was just 13 years old. George had then established the ‘Jenifer Lynn Strait Foundation’ through which he would contribute to children’s charities in Texas.
