  1. Audie was the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II.
  2. In January 1945, at 19 years old, he stopped a group of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France. For this courage, he received a Medal of Honor award.
  3. His enlistment papers listed his birth year as 1924, but his California driver’s license listed his birth year as 1925.
  4. Initially, he was rejected by the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps for being underweight and underage. He was finally accepted into the Army on June 30, 1942, after an affidavit by his sister which showed a different birth year.
  5. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
  6. In 1941, he lost his mother to endocarditis and pneumonia.
  7. Throughout his life, he had worked at a radio repair shop, at a combination general store, a garage, a gas station, etc.
  8. He had even purchased a home for his eldest sister Corinne and her husband, Poland Burns in Farmersville.

  1. His weight was closer to 63.5 kg because 51 kg seems less, even though he’s listed as 51 kg. He was more than 51 kg, often listed as 120 lbs. He could have been 135-140 lbs or something.
