- Growing up, she aspired of becoming an actor.
- In 2002, Bhavana made her Malayalam debut by playing the character named Parimalam in the romantic comedy-drama film Nammal. She co-starred in the film alongside Sidharth Bharathan, Jishnu Raghavan, and Renuka Menon. Also, for this performance, Bhavana won the 2002 Asianet Film Award in the “Best Supporting Actress” category.
- Alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Cochin Haneefa, she co-starred as Sameera in the 2005 Malayalam-language film Daivanamathil, based on the Demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992. This role won her the “Best Character Actress Award” at the Asianet Film Awards in 2005.
- She brought to life the character of Charumathi (aka Charu), a worker at an NGO who fights injustice, in the 2006 Tamil romantic action drama film Chithiram Pesuthadi. This performance won her the “Best Actress” award at the Filmfare Awards South in 2006.

Reportedly, a van hit her car from behind near Athani, Angamaly and the 3 van passengers forcefully entered her vehicle keeping her hostage. The 3 accused dropped her near Kakkanad and ran away. Following the incident, she filed a case with the police and the FIR was registered with allegations of r*pe, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, and breaches of relevant sections of the IT Act of India.
- In the aftermath of her kidnap and s*xual assault, Malayalam film actor Dileep was arrested for conspiracy in the case.
