Brendan Allen Facts
- Brendan began getting trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (a self-defense martial art and combat sport) when he was about 13 years old. He was inspired after watching a Jiu-Jitsu (a family of Japanese martial arts and a system of close combat) class with his older brother. During his high school days, he also trained in wrestling and boxing.
- Before starting his professional mixed martial arts career in August 2015, he won that year’s IMMAF Amateur Middleweight Championship. The IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation) is the international governing body for amateur mixed martial arts.
- Brendan had put together an 11-3 win-loss record between August 2015 and February 2019, competing in numerous professional mixed martial arts promotions. This included winning the Legacy Fighting Alliance Middleweight Championship in September 2018 and a defense of that title in February 2019.
- These title wins attracted a lot of attention and he was invited to join the 3rd season (June-August 2019) of Dana White’s Contender Series – an American mixed martial arts promotion that aims to scout talent for the UFC. Dana has served as the UFC‘s president since 2001 and CEO since 2023.
- On July 16, 2019, Brendan appeared in the 4th week of the 3rd season of Dana White’s Contender Series and won his bout via submission in the first round. With this win, he was awarded a UFC contract – he competed in his first UFC bout in October 2019.
- As of November 2023, he was ranked 2nd in the list of the most submission wins (7) in the middleweight division in UFC history. 6 of these 7 submission wins were via the rear-naked choke (a chokehold in martial arts applied from an opponent’s back) while the remainder was via ankle lock.
- By this time, Brendan was also ranked joint 3rd in the UFC‘s history in terms of both the longest winning streak via submission (4) as well as the most wins via rear-naked choke submissions (6).
