Bukayo Saka is an English professional soccer player who has represented, as a winger/defender/midfielder, Arsenal F.C. (2018-Present) in England. With the club, he won the prestigious FA Cup in the 2019–20 season and the FA Community Shield in 2020. With England, Bukayo finished as the runner-up at the 2020 edition (played in June and July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) of the UEFA European Championship (also known as the UEFA Euro), the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship of Europe. In November 2022, he was named to England’s squad for the 2022 edition of the FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) World Cup.

  1. His name, Bukayo, in the Yoruba language, means ‘adding to the happiness’.
  2. A child prodigy, he started his youth career with a local club called Greenford Celtic before joining Watford F.C. He then became a part of Arsenal F.C.‘s youth system in 2008 as a 7-year-old. He would stay in that system until 2018 when he joined the club’s senior team.
  3. When he made his Premier League (the highest level of the men’s English soccer league system) debut in January 2019, he became the first player born in the 21st century to play in a Premier League match.
  4. He was named Arsenal F.C.‘s ‘Player of the Season’ following both the 2020–21 and the 2021–22 seasons. He became the first person to win this award in successive seasons after Thierry Henry (2003 and 2004).
  5. In December 2021, he became the second youngest player, only behind Nicolas Anelka, to have scored 10 Premier League goals for Arsenal F.C.
  6. He was named ‘England’s Men’s Player of the Year’ for the 2021–22 season. He became the first Arsenal F.C. player to have won this honor.
