Cameron Johnson Facts

  1. Cameron, early in his first year at The University of Pittsburgh, had suffered a knee injury and was allowed to redshirt (a practice in US college athletics, where an athlete’s participation is delayed to lengthen their period of eligibility) during that season to undergo rehabilitation for his injury.
  2. After 3 years at The University of Pittsburgh, he had stated that uncertainty in coaching at the Pittsburgh Panthers men’s basketball team and the team’s losing record had forced him to decide to take a transfer to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The University of Pittsburgh was quite reluctant to release him as the North Carolina Tar Heels are the in-conference rivals of the Pittsburgh Panthers. They had later relented and Cameron had taken advantage of the graduate transfer rules to make the switch without having to sit out a year.
  3. In November 2017, just 5 days after the North Carolina Tar Heels‘ season opener, he had undergone surgery to fix a torn meniscus due to which he had to miss 10 games. Despite this, he had finished the season at number 3 on the team in scoring, with 12.4 points per game. At the end of the season, he was forced to undergo an arthroscopic hip procedure.
  4. In his final season for the team, he was the leading scorer for the North Carolina Tar Heels with 16.9 points per game.
