Carlos Santana Facts

  1. Santana is the first band that has been named after its guitarist i.e. Carlos Santana.
  2. Carlos has played his Latin and African rhythms with Timbales and Congas which are not traditional rock instruments.
  3. He was listed at the 20th position by Rolling Stone magazine in its list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists’ in 2015.
  4. He started learning the violin at the age of 5 and guitar at the age of 8.
  5. At the age of 8, Carlos developed influence for B.B. King, Javier Bátiz, Mike Bloomfield, and John Lee Hooker, Gábor Szabó.
  6. His album Shape Shifter, released in the year 2012, had a song titled “Mr. Szabo” which was a dedication to Gábor Szabó.
  7. In the year 1973, Carlos collaborated with Sri Chinmoy from Bengal, India, and John McLaughlin to form a spiritually beautiful album named “Love, Devotion, Surrender”.
  8. In 1987, he participated in Rock ‘n’ Roll Summit.
  9. Carlos has a charitable front too. He has actively involved in San Francisco Earthquake Relief, Doctors Without Borders, Indigenous People Fund, Hispanic Media & Education Group, Amnesty International, LA Museum of Tolerance, and many such causes.
  10. Even with his first wife Deborah, he had formed a not-for-profit organization under the name Milagro (“Miracle”) Foundation to aid the needful for their health and education. The NPO funded $1.8 million to the underprivileged youth.
