Diego Forlán is a former Uruguayan professional footballer who is best known for his playing position as a forward. He has built his name and reputation in the footballing industry not too long after his debut as a professional. Forlán, known for being a creative goalscorer, is also regarded as one of the best Uruguayan players of all time. On top of his achievements and array of outstanding records as a player representing Uruguay, he appeared to be one of the most competitive players during his reign. In addition to his row of victories, he’s a two-time winner of the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe, and, he had individual success at the 2010 World Cup where he finished as the joint top scorer with five goals and winning the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

Before fame, he started as a youth player with Peñarol and Danubio before debuting with the Argentine club, Independiente. He had a successful career as a youth player and was even able to secure a spot to England with the Manchester United in 2002. He moved to Spanish’s Villarreal where he scored a total of 25 league goals and won the Pichichi Trophy in the summer of 2004. After two seasons, he then joined Atlético Madrid where he became the team’s top scorer and the first player to win the Pichichi Trophy twice, next to Ronaldo in the 1996-97 and 2003-04 seasons. Prior to his official retirement from professional football, he had a series of victories and scored 36 times for his country between 2002 and 2015, which included 6 goals at FIFA World Cups.

  1. He was born into a family of footballers with his father having played for São Paulo from 1970 to 1975 and his maternal grandfather Juan Carlos Corazzo for Independiente in Argentina.
  2. In 2009, he appeared in a music video for Coti starring alongside Argentinian footballer Maxi Rodríguez.
