  1. In 2010, he was made a member of the Board of Directors of The Trevor Project, which is a non-profit organization that aims to prevent suicide and assists young LGBT people in dealing with familial rejection.
  2. In 2009, he was caught up in a controversy when his s*x tape was released by his former scorned lover. He had to issue a public apology.
  3. The Advocate magazine included Dustin Lance in their special edition featuring Forty Under 40. He was placed on the top in the list for openly gay influential people.
  4. He is the founding member of the Los Angeles-based American Foundation for Equal Rights, which is a non-profit organization that was established in 2009 to support plaintiffs in the legal battle against Proposition 8.
  5. While growing up, he often struggled to come to terms with his sexuality. Because of his religious upbringing, he felt that he would go to hell because of his sexual orientation. He eventually came out as gay in the senior year at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television.
  6. In October 2009, he participated in the National Equality March. He even delivered a speech to the crowd of about 200,000 LGBT rights activists in front of the United States Capitol.
  7. In 2014, he was going to be one of the potential commencement speakers at the Pasadena City College. However, after the college officials learned that his s*x tape was leaked 5 years ago, they claimed that he wasn’t officially invited and the unofficial invitation was an honest error. His attorneys and Pasadena City College attorneys held talks after the fiasco after which the college board of trustees apologized and decided to formally invite him.
  8. In September 2022, Dustin revealed that almost a month ago, he had suffered a head injury.
  9. In April 2023, it was revealed that Dustin had been accused of allegedly assaulting a BBC host. However, he pled ‘not guilty’ to the charge and had to go to trial. According to the courtroom conversation, Dustin allegedly threw a drink at BBC host Teddy Edwardes. Teddy revealed that she had reciprocated by giving him “a little tap on the head”. It was claimed that the assault charges were reportedly related to his head injury in 2022. In November 2023, the case was dismissed by the judge after Teddy failed to provide consistent evidence in court.
