In the early years of his junior career, Auger compiled a long list of achievements including his 2 ITF junior singles title, first doubles title (February 2015), junior G1 title alongside victory compatriot Denis Shapovalov (August 2015), double titles on his first junior Grand Slam (September 2015), and another G1 singles title during which he defeated Alex De Minaur in the final round. However, he ended up retiring during the first round in a match against Denis Shapovalov after he suffered from heart palpitations due to extreme heat during the competition.

He started his 2019 season with multiple wins and a few losses in a row including his wins over Pablo Cuevas and Stefanos Tsitsopas who was at the no. 10 spot in the ATP Rankings and his defeats in matches against Rafael Nadal and Benoit Paire. Auger also won matches against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the 4th round of the 2019 Miami Open and Borna Coric in quarterfinals, making him the youngest semifinalist in the tournament’s history. He reached the semifinals but later lost to the defending champion and eventual runner-up John Isner in 2 tight sets. At Wimbledon 2019, Auger entered as the 19th seed and earned his first victory as a pro after defeating his compatriot, Vasek Pospisil.
