Alex de Minaur is an Australian professional tennis player, who holds dual Australian and Spanish citizenship, who had first made waves on the international scene in 2020 when he had reached the quarterfinal of the US Open. This had made him the youngest Australian to have played a quarterfinal at the US Open since his mentor Lleyton Hewitt had done so in 2002. He had broken the ‘Top 20’ of the official ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) singles rankings in October 2019. Although primarily a singles player, highlighted by his 4 ATP singles titles as of February 2021, he has a coveted doubles title in his trophy cabinet – the 2020 Cincinnati Masters, one of the 9 World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments on the annual ATP circuit.

Alex de Minaur Facts
- In 2018, Alex had been voted by his fellow players as the ‘ATP Newcomer of the Year’.
- His first ATP singles title had arrived in January 2019, at the Sydney International, the 127th edition of one of the oldest tournaments in tennis. It became a distinct possibility that Alex could be the final champion of his hometown’s iconic tournament as the Sydney International (first held in 1885) was not held in 2020 due to the newly formed ATP Cup (an international team-based tournament), and in 2021 due to a combination of the ATP Cup and Covid-19.
- The number ‘109’ that is tattooed on his chest represents the fact that he was the 109th player to have represented Australia in the Davis Cup.
- When he won his 2nd ATP singles title, the 2019 Atlanta Open, he had become just the 3rd player since 1991 to have won an ATP singles title without having faced a single break point (a situation where the non-serving player is one point away from winning a game).
- A polyglot, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
