Ferran Torres Facts
- Ferran’s youth career began in 2006 when, as a 6-year-old, he joined the youth academy of Valencia CF, a top-flight professional soccer club based in Valencia. Ferran stayed in the club’s youth system until 2017. However, by 2016, he had already started representing Valencia CF Mestalla (2016–2017), the reserve team of Valencia CF.
- With Spain, he won the 2017 edition of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship. The title was Spain’s 9th such and extended the country’s record as the then most successful team in the competition.
- Ferran was also a member of the Spanish squad that reached the final of the 2017 edition of the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Under-17 World Cup. In the tournament, he had scored the 3rd goal in Spain’s 3-1 wins over both Iran (in the quarter-final) and Mali (in the semi-final).
- In December 2017, he became the first player born in the 2000s to make his La Liga (the top tier of the Spanish soccer league system) debut.
- In 2019, Ferran won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with Spain. This was the country’s 11th such title and made them the then-most successful team in the competition, breaking England’s record of 10 titles. England drew level with Spain (11 titles apiece) in 2022.
- In that tournament, he had scored the winning penalty in Spain’s semi-final victory over France as well as both the goals in the team’s 2–0 win in the final, against defending champions Portugal. For his performances, Ferran was included in the ‘Team of the Tournament’.
- In November 2019, he became Valencia CF‘s youngest goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League. Later that month, he became the youngest Valencia CF player (19 years and 254 days old) to play 50 matches in La Liga.
- In late October 2020, while representing Manchester City F.C., Ferran became the then-youngest Spanish player (20 years and 241 days old) to have scored at least 1 goal in 3 consecutive appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
- He was an integral member of the Spanish squad that finished as the runner-up in the 2020–21 edition of the UEFA Nations League, the 2nd season of a continental competition that involves the men’s national teams of the 55 members of the UEFA. In the group stage of the tournament, Ferran had scored a hattrick (the feat of scoring 3 goals, not necessarily consecutive, in a match) in a 6–0 win over Germany.
- In the semi-final of that tournament, he had scored both goals in Spain’s 2–1 victory over reigning European champions Italy. With 6 goals overall, Ferran was the joint top-scorer (with Romelu Lukaku of Belgium and Erling Haaland of Norway) in the competition.
