Haris Rauf Facts

  1. While he was a student at the Islamabad Model College, Haris had had a greater interest in soccer than cricket and had even helped his institution win a local soccer tournament.
  2. His focus had shifted to cricket only after he had joined the cricket team of the International Islamic University, Islamabad. The coach there had asked him to attend the trials that were being conducted by the PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars in Gujranwala in September 2017.
  3. Although he was initially reluctant, he had later heeded his coach’s advice. At the trials, he was spotted by former international cricketer Aaqib Javed who had urged him to play grade cricket in Australia.
  4. He was eventually selected for Lahore Qalandars‘ subsidiary team in the 2018 Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy where he had eventually made his franchise career debut.
  5. In December 2019, he had been drafted in the Melbourne Stars‘ squad during the 2019-20 season of the Big Bash League, as a replacement for the legendary South African pace bowler Dale Steyn who had sustained an injury. In just his 2nd match with the team, he had picked up a sensational 5-wicket haul against Hobart Hurricanes and was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.
  6. Later that season, in a game against Sydney Thunder, he had recorded what was just the 6th hat-trick (the feat of dismissing 3 batsmen in 3 successive legal deliveries) in the history of the Big Bash League. He had won another ‘Player of the Match’ award for his performance and had become the first Pakistani and the first Melbourne Stars bowler to record a hat-trick in the Big Bash League.
  7. In the preliminary final of the season, against Sydney Thunder, he had again starred with a spell of 3/17 to help his team win by 28 runs and reach the final of the tournament.
  8. His teammates in the Northern regional domestic team in Pakistan had given him the nickname ‘150’ after he had bowled a delivery that was recorded at 151.3 km/h in the Big Bash League.
  9. In February 2022, during a game of PSL (Pakistan Super League) between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, Haris Rauf slapped teammate Kamran Ghulam after Haris took a wicket. Kamran was slapped because he had dropped Peshawar Zalmi’s Hazratullah Zazai catch on Haris’s delivery.
  10. In December 2022, he made his Test debut for Pakistan.
