- His Hales Franciscan coach Gary London stated that McGee’s natural position in college was ideally small forward and he could play both forward spots.
- He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, shooting 53% from the field and 33% from three-point range, in his sophomore season. After this, he made the decision to hire an agent and declare for the 2008 NBA draft.
- In the 2008 NBA draft, JaVale McGee was selected by the Washington Wizards as the 18th overall and signed a two-year, $2.4 million deal on July 9, 2008.
- The Washington Wizards fined him $10,000 on January 9, 2010, for his participation in Gilbert Arenas’ antics before a game on January 5, 2010, against the Philadelphia 76ers.
