Jaxson Hayes is an American professional basketball player who has represented the New Orleans Pelicans (2019-2023) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2023-Present) as a center/power forward, in the NBA (National Basketball Association – a professional basketball league in North America that is considered to be the world’s premier such league). Jaxson was selected 8th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1st round of the 2019 NBA Draft. His draft rights were soon traded, along with a heavily protected 1st-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Jaxson had attended the Archbishop Moeller High School, a private, all-male, college-preparatory school in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. After his high school graduation, he joined The University of Texas at Austin, a public research university in Austin, Texas, United States.

There, between 2018 and 2019, he represented the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team. In April 2019, Jaxson declared for the 2019 NBA Draft, thus foregoing the rest of his collegiate eligibility.

Jaxson resisted that arrest and even pushed an officer into a wall. He was then hit twice with an electronic stun gun and had to be treated for minor injuries before being taken into custody. In early 2022, Sofia (a fashion model, entrepreneur, Instagram influencer, TikToker, and YouTuber) sued him for assault and battery – based on multiple instances of physical abuse.

  1. While at The University of Texas at Austin, Jaxson won the NIT (National Invitation Tournament) – in 2019. It is a men’s college basketball tournament operated by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association – an organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 institutions in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico).
  2. Founded in 1938 and once considered the most prestigious post-season showcase for college basketball, the tournament’s ‘Final Four’ stage is played each March and April at the iconic Madison Square Garden, a multi-purpose indoor arena in New York City.
  3. For his performances, Jaxson was named the ‘Big 12 Freshman of the Year’ in 2019 and was also included in the ‘Big 12 All-Defensive Team’ that year.
