- Describing his high school experience, he stated that he felt like an “outsider” in high school. He later joined a church choir and was praised for his singing ability.
- In 1999, Kim Bum-soo made his debut as a singer with the release of his album titled A Promise.
- His song Hello Goodbye Hello was released in 2001 and it peaked at #51 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart.
- On December 17, 2002, Kim Bum-soo released his album I Miss You (보고 싶다) and the title track from the album was included in the soundtrack for the Korean television drama Stairway to Heaven.
- For the song Sun Sets in My Heart (가슴에 지는 태양), he bagged the KBS Music Award for “Bonsang” in 2004.

I wanted to show and let them think how I was prepared, and listen to my song first. At first, I felt sad that only my appearance stood out.” However, he added that he believed the comments “made him stronger” and people have started to “take my songs and skills just as they are, and I really appreciate it”.
