Lendl Simmons Facts
- A destructive top-order batsman in the limited-overs versions of the sport, Lendl has been featured in franchise-based T20 leagues around the world, turning out for Chittagong Kings (2012–2013) and Rajshahi Kings (2017–Present) in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League); Guyana Amazon Warriors (2013–2015), Jamaica Tallawahs (2017), St. Lucia Zouks (2018), and Trinbago Knight Riders (2019–Present) in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League); Mumbai Indians (2014–2017) in the IPL (Indian Premier League); and Karachi Kings (2016, 2018) and Peshawar Zalmi (2019) in the PSL (Pakistan Super League).
- In August 2014, while he was traveling in the United States, customs officials had drilled several holes into his bat after mistakenly assuming that it was being used to smuggle drugs.
- He had played a critical role in helping the West Indies clinch the ICC World T20Â in 2016, the team’s 2nd such trophy. He had initially been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury but had made a return to the squad after a hamstring injury to Andre Fletcher had ruled him out just before the semi-finals.
- The tournament was being held in India and the West Indies had to face the hosts and title favorites in the semi-final. Having arrived in the country just a day-and-a-half before the match, he had scored an unbeaten, match-winning 51-ball 82 to overhaul India’s strong total of 192 and guide the West Indies into the final which they would go on to win, again in dramatic fashion.
