Oleksandr Usyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer who was the undisputed cruiserweight champion from 2018 until he had vacated his titles in 2019 to move up to the heavyweight division. Oleksandr holds the record of being the first cruiserweight ever to hold all 4 major world championships – the WBA (World Boxing Association) (Super), the WBC (World Boxing Council), the IBF (International Boxing Federation), and the WBO (World Boxing Organization) titles. He was just the 4th male boxer in history to simultaneously hold all 4 of those titles and the first Ukrainian to become the undisputed champion. He had won 3 of those titles during the inaugural World Boxing Super Series, where he had also won the prestigious ‘Muhammad Ali Trophy’, besides winning The Ring magazine and lineal cruiserweight titles. In June 2021, he was ranked number 4 in the world among active boxers, pound for pound, by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB) and The Ring magazine; and 8th by ESPN. Among active heavyweight boxers, he was ranked 4th by BoxRec and ESPN; and 10th by TBRB.

  2. Before turning professional in late 2013, he had amassed an incredible amateur boxing win-loss record of 335−15. Representing Ukraine, he had won the ‘Gold’ medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the heavyweight category, the 2008 Liverpool European Amateur Boxing Championships in the light-heavyweight category, the 2008 Plovdiv Strandzha Cup in the light-heavyweight category, and the 2011 Baku AIBA (Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur) World Boxing Championships in the heavyweight category.
  3. He had also clinched a ‘Silver’ medal at the 2008 Moscow Boxing World Cup in the heavyweight category; and the ‘Bronze’ medal at the 2006 Plovdiv European Amateur Boxing Championships in the middleweight category, and the 2009 Milan AIBA World Boxing Championships in the heavyweight category.
  4. Representing Crimea, he had won a ‘Gold’ medal at the 2009 Kryvyi Rih Ukrainian National Championships in the heavyweight category.
  5. For his performances in 2018, he was named the ‘Fighter of the Year’ by Sports Illustrated, ESPN, The Ring, as well as the Boxing Writers Association of America.
  6. By the time he had vacated his cruiserweight titles in 2019 to move up to the heavyweight category, he had defeated 5 current or former world champions.
