- He was only 9 years old when his uncle President John F. Kennedy was assassinated during a political trip to Dallas in 1963. At the age of 14, his father was also assassinated while running for president in the 1968 Democratic presidential primaries.
- He was at Georgetown Preparatory School when he learned of his father’s shooting. Along with his older siblings Kathleen and Joseph, they all flew to Los Angeles on Vice President Hubert Humphrey’s plane and were all with his father when he died.
- In 1970, Kennedy was charged with marijuana possession in Hyannis, Massachusetts. In August 1971, he was arrested for loitering and plead no contest to the charges.
- He has written numerous books and articles on environmental issues and his works have appeared in various publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, The Nation, Outside Magazine, and The Village Voice.
