  1. When he was 6 years old, his family emigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union. His father was alarmed by the rising anti-Semitism and oppression by the state.
  2. Just a couple of weeks before his 17th birthday, he went to the Soviet Union on two weeks exchange program with his father and other high school students. The trip brought his childhood fear of oppression back to his mind and he took his father aside to thank him for his decision to take their family out of there.
  3. In 1993, he worked as an intern at Wolfram Research, which is best known for being the developer of Mathematica, a modern technical computing system.
  4. He met Google co-founder Larry Page during the orientation program for the new students at Stanford University.
  5. Initially, he and Page used to disagree on most of the topics but eventually after hanging out together, they became close friends and ‘intellectual soul mates.’
  6. He and Larry Page have established as the philanthropic wing of Google, which works to resolve climate and energy problems and has invested heavily in the alternative energy industry.
