1. She moved to England from Iran at the age of 6 after her family was forced to flee from their native country. Her father had written a satirical poem that criticized the revolution, after which her father received persistent death threats.
2. Such was vitriol directed against her family and father that they used to receive death threats on phone after having moved to England. He was even the target of assassination attempts.
3. In her teens, she had to battle bulimia, which is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating that is often followed by purging.
4. She spent most of her growing up days looking for a terrorist in shopping centers that would kill her father. She was particularly paranoid about bombs under the cars.
5. Shappi once bought a walk-on part in West End production of the iconic play, Les Misérables at a charity auction.
6. She is dyslexic but it was never detected, so her struggles with studies were blamed on her being lazy.
