- In 2017, she boycotted the 89th Academy Awards, where The Salesman bagged the year’s ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ award, in protest of the Trump administration’s travel ban on Iranians.
- Taraneh was the youngest person to win the Best Actress award at the Fajr Film Festival in 2002 for her stunning performance in her debut film, I’m Taraneh, 15 (2002).
- In November 2022, she stood in solidarity with the Iranian women protesting their government’s stringent Sharia Laws by posting a defiant image of herself without a headscarf on social media. Taraneh joined scores of protestors demanding more freedom for women after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16, 2022. She was later arrested in December 2022 and was held in the Iranian prison for two and a half weeks after expressing support for Iran’s protest movement. She was released on bail in January 2023.
