Trihex Facts
- He had first started speedrunning Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island in 2004 after he was introduced to the concept by a Speed Demos Archive (a website dedicated to video game speedruns) DVD that he had received with an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, an American video game magazine.
- He had first come into the spotlight a decade later, in 2014, when he had performed a 100% run of Yoshi’s Island at the Awesome Games Done Quick speedrunning charity event. After about 72 minutes, the audience of 90,000 Twitch viewers were forced to watch the building be evacuated when his run was interrupted by a fire alarm.
- In 2015, he was one among 8 people who had been invited to compete in a tournament of different games at the June 2015 Nintendo World Championships. He had stood 3rd.
- In November 2016, he had been signed up by Tempo Storm, an American e-sports team.
- In October 2018, he was temporarily banned from Twitch after he had called a friend a ‘fagg*t’ during a Super Mario Party stream. He had immediately apologized on Twitter Jefferson and had vowed to never repeat this behavior but was later also banned from Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 for the comment.
- The origin of TriHard, one of Twitch’s most widely recognized and popular emotes, which is based on his face, has an interesting story behind it. In the summer of 2012, he had clicked a picture with a woman at a Dallas anime convention. He was amused by his expression in that picture and had posted it on Twitter. It had gone viral and when Twitch had surveyed its users for global emote suggestions, his fans had voted in large numbers for that image to be used across the platform. When a Twitch employee had joined his chat, Trihex had attempted to show off some difficult gameplay to get his attention. The employee, tongue in cheek, had asked him to try harder. When that picture became an emote, it was christened ‘TriHard’ based on the aforementioned conversation.
