Vinesh Phogat is an Indian freestyle wrestler who hails from the accomplished Phogat family of wrestlers and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers in the rise to prominence of female wrestling in India. Representing India in freestyle wrestling, she had won the ‘Gold’ medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games (48 kg), the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (50 kg), the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games (50 kg), the 2021 Almaty Asian Wrestling Championships (53 kg), and the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games (53 kg). - She holds the record for being the first Indian female wrestler to have won a ‘Gold’ medal at both the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.
- She had achieved this feat when she had won the ‘Gold’ medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games in the 50 kg category. This had also made her the first Indian female wrestler to win a ‘Gold’ medal at the Asian Games.
