Zolita Facts

  1. Zolita was inspired to take up music by her father. In her childhood, she learned how to play the guitar.
  2. She first came into the spotlight in 2015 when the music video of her very first single, titled Explosion, went viral. In 2017, she released Fight Like a Girl – the 1st single from her 2nd extended play titled Sappho.
  3. It was a protest song with feminist themes and was targeted at the then-president of the United States – Donald Trump. His presidential campaign (June 2015-November 2016) was riddled with accusations of making sexist and misogynistic remarks. During this campaign, several accusations of s**ual misconduct and harassment from his past had also resurfaced.
  4. In May 2018, Zolita released a promotional single titled Like Heaven that went on to be included in ’30 Lesbian Love Songs’, a list compiled by Billboard, a popular American weekly entertainment magazine that provides music charts and news related to the music industry. Its music charts track the most popular albums/songs in various genres.
  5. On December 4, 2020, her debut solo studio album, titled Evil Angel, was released. For a single from the album, titled Somebody I F***ed Once, she released a music video in September 2021. Within a week of its release, the video had amassed more than 5 million views.
  6. Buoyed by the success of Somebody I F***ed Once, Zolita published 2 non-album singles in 2022 – titled Single in September and I F***ing Love You. The idea was to create a musical trilogy with the music videos of these 3 songs.
  7. She identifies as a witch and has talked about this in multiple videos on her YouTube channel. Her musical style incorporates both witchcraft (the use of alleged supernatural powers of magic to inflict harm or misfortune on others) and religion.
  8. Zolita is inclined towards Wicca, a ‘modern pagan’ (a term for any religion that is influenced by the various historical pre-Christian beliefs of pre-modern peoples in Europe and adjacent areas of North Africa and the Near East), earth-centered religion. She had stated in an interview that this was because she felt that Wicca was not known to have discriminated against non-straight people.
