Claressa Shields is an American professional boxer and mixed martial artist who had held the undisputed female middleweight championship from 2019 to September 2020; having held the unified WBA (World Boxing Association), WBC (World Boxing Council), and IBF (International Boxing Federation) female middleweight titles since 2018; as well as the WBO (World Boxing Organization) female middleweight title from 2019 to September 2020. She had also won the unified WBC and WBO female light middleweight titles in January 2020; in addition to having held the unified WBC and IBF female super middleweight titles from 2017 to 2018. At the amateur level, representing the United States in the middleweight category, she had won the ‘Gold’ medal at the 2012 London Olympics, the 2014 Jeju World Championships, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and the 2016 Astana World Championships. She had also won a ‘Gold’ medal in the light heavyweight category, at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games. In November 2020, she had signed up with Professional Fighters League through which she had wished to develop a career in mixed martial arts.

Her interest in boxing was piqued by her father who used to often talk about his boxing experiences with her, upon his release.
