- Brian started his singing journey by joining the choir at the Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington.
- He later joined his high school choir and also began acting in the school production of Grease in which he was cast as Roger.
- He played basketball in both Little League and the Babe Ruth League and at the age of 15, he aspired to become a basketball player for Kentucky Wildcats.
- He struggled with his dream of becoming a basketball player because of his short height.
- While continuing his studies at school, he also worked at the Long John Silver’s restaurant and also occasionally performed at weddings.
- Realizing that he had no future in basketball, Brian planned to attend Cincinnati Bible College on a full scholarship to become a music minister as music was equally important to him. He, however, dropped that plan in order to join the Backstreet Boys.
- In 1998, he went through a cardiac surgery to correct the congenital heart defect which he had had since his birth.
- Brian is the founder of the Healthy Heart Club, a non-profit organization that supports children with heart conditions through medical, financial, and practical aid.
