Carl Nassib is an American professional football player who has represented, as a defensive end, the Cleveland Browns (2016–2017), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2018–2019), and the Las Vegas Raiders (2020–Present), in the NFL (National Football League). He had been selected 65th overall, by the Cleveland Browns, in the 3rd round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In June 2021, during Pride Month, he had released a statement on Instagram where he had come out as gay, becoming the first active NFL player to publicly declare so.

  1. At the Malvern Preparatory School, Carl had represented the school team as an offensive tackle and defensive end and was a 3-year letterman in high school football. He had led his team to a 7–4 win-loss record in his junior and senior years. He had also excelled in other sports and had lettered twice in basketball and thrice in track and field. In his senior year, he was made the team’s basketball captain and had led them to a 24–7 win-loss record.
  2. In his senior year at the Pennsylvania State University (2015), he was named a unanimous ‘All-American’ and the Big Ten Conference’s ‘Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year’.
  3. He had also won the ‘Hendricks Award’, presented annually to the best defensive end in college football in the United States as well as the ‘Lombardi Award’, presented annually to the college football player in the United States who best embodies the values of NFL’s legendary coach Vince Lombardi.
  4. In June 2021, when he had come out as gay, he had pledged to donate USD 100k to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that focuses on suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth.
  5. His coming out and support for Trevor Project had received tremendous support from the fans, his team, the NFL, his university, and several current and former athletes. On the day he had come out as gay, jerseys with his name were the top sellers among all NFL players at Fanatics, Inc., an American online retailer of licensed sportswear, sports equipment, and merchandise which is the NFL‘s sales partner.
