Chris Woakes Facts

  1. He had started playing cricket when he was just 7 years old with Aston Manor Cricket Club. He had later represented Warwickshire at the Under-15, Under-17, and the Second XI tiers from 2004 to 2007.
  2. Besides cricket, he was adept at soccer as well and was a trainee with Walsall F.C., as a winger, until the age of 14. He is an ardent supporter of Aston Villa F.C.
  3. In August 2018, he had scored his first test match hundred, a score of 137 runs not out against India, at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in London. At the same venue, 2 years ago, he had recorded match figures of 11 wickets for 102 runs in a test match against Pakistan. These performances had meant that he had become just the 10th player to be featured on the Lord’s honor boards for both batting and bowling. He was also just the 5th player to do so by taking 10 wickets in a match.
  4. In June 2016, in an ODI match against Sri Lanka, he had scored 95 not out. This was the then highest ODI score by a player batting at number 8 or lower. The record was equaled by fellow English cricketer Sam Curran in a 2021 ODI match against India.
