- Soon after graduating from high school, he moved to San Francisco where he studied acting and started acting in local theatre productions.
- As an actor, he got his first big breakthrough by portraying Mr. Franklin Jones, Joop, and Mr. Venus in the highly acclaimed musical, Passing Strange. He was later cast in the film version of the play as well.
- In 2010, he premiered his Off-Broadway show, A Boy and His Soul, at the Vineyard Theater. It was a one-man autobiographical play which was written and created by him.
