Glenn Strange Facts

  1. Growing up, Glenn spent years as a real-life cowboy in Cross Cut, Texas.
  2. He taught himself to play the fiddle and guitar at a young age and would perform as a teenager.
  3. Glenn got his big break after being cast in The Lone Ranger Rides Again (1939), and Riders of Death Valley (1941).
  4. He made his debut as a monster with his role as Frankenstein Monster in House of Frankenstein (1944).
  5. Glenn once stated in an interview that he wore a size 70 coat and boots that had six-inch soles making him over seven feet tall for the role of Frankenstein Monster. It was well-known make-up artist Jack Pierce who discovered Glenn for the role of Frankenstein while he getting ready for an action film.
  6. Glenn’s final resting place is at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, California, United States.
  7. Strange had been credited as a sheriff in various films including Guilty Trails (1938) as a New Sheriff, Overland Mail (1939) as Sheriff Dawson, Pioneer Days (1940) as a Sheriff, Rhythm of the Rio Grande (1940) as Sheriff Hays.
  8. He passed away on September 20, 1973, at age 74, as a result of acute lung cancer.
