  1. She is a first-generation American.
  2. Her mother was born in a mud hut back in India.
  3. Rajkumar and her family moved to the United States with just $300 and a suitcase and eventually settled in Queens.
  4. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude, phi beta kappa for which she received the Alice Paul Award for her exemplary service to women and families.

  6. She had been appointed as a professor at the City University of New York in 2015.
  7. Jenifer became the first Indian American woman to ever be elected as the District Leader of the 65th District of the New York State Assembly. She was re-elected two more times in 2013 and 2015. While elected as the leader, Jenifer led the effort to bring the M9 bus service back to Battery Park City in Lower Manhattan.
  8. In 2016, Jenifer ran for the New York State Assembly in the 65th District.
