John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, and peace activist who became a global icon as the founder, co-lead vocalist, and guitarist of the legendary band The Beatles. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney is widely recognized as one of the most influential and successful pairings of the 20th century. After The Beatles disbanded in 1970, he embarked on a solo career and frequently collaborated with his wife and fellow musician Yoko Ono.   1. His parents named him John after his paternal grandfather John “Jack” Lennon. His middle name was kept Winston after the then-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill.
  2. John formed his first band in 1957 called The Quarrymen which evolved into The Beatles by 1960.
  3. John moved to New York City in 1971 and the US administration attempted to deport him for 3 years due to his public criticism of the Vietnam War.
  4. He was inducted into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ twice – first as a member of The Beatles (1988) and later as a solo artist (1994).
