Kari Lake Facts
- While working as an anchor for KSAZ-TV, she got the opportunity to interview President Barack Obama in 2016 and President Donald Trump in 2020.
- During the 2022 mid-term election, she became the Republican nominee for the governor of Arizona against the Democratic nominee and eventual winner, Katie Hobbs. Upon losing, Lake followed Trump’s playbook and refused to concede, instead filing several unsuccessful lawsuits that were thrown out by the courts. When questioned if she would accept the result if she lost a month before the election, her response was telling: “I’m going to win the election, and I will accept that result.”
- She is a self-identified conservative Republican and a ‘Trump candidate’ as per her statements from 2022.
- Lake became one of the most vocal proponents of the ‘Big Lie’ that wrongly claimed the 2020 presidential election was ‘stolen’ from Trump. She received Trump’s endorsement during her 2022 campaign, in which she promoted several election lies including claims that President Joe Biden did not receive 81 million votes (which he did) and that Trump, not Biden, had won the state of Arizona in the 2020 presidential election.
- She is pro-life and considers abortion to be “the ultimate sin.” Furthermore, she celebrated the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in 2022 that overturned Roe v. Wade, which had granted women the constitutional right to abortion for nearly 50 years.
- She led anti-mask rallies during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in August 2021. During her campaign, Lake promised to end mask and vaccine mandates if elected as governor. She later revealed that she had chosen not to be vaccinated.
- She has been a registered Republican most of her life except between 2006 to 2008 when she became an independent and between January 4, 2008, and January 31, 2012, when she was registered as a Democrat.
