- He spent his early childhood in the poor neighborhood of Falmouth, Jamaica. He and his mother didn’t get financial support from his famous father.
- After Bob Marley’s death, he didn’t receive any financial help from his father’s estate until he had turned 18.
- At the age of 9, he and his mother moved to Miami. In Miami, they lived in the crime-ridden neighborhood, where he used to watch people getting shot from his window.
- While he was studying in middle school, he started peddling drugs.
- While growing up, he didn’t have much interest in music and his first love was sports. Under his mother’s influence, he eventually got enrolled in guitar and piano classes.
- While studying in high school, he used to play trumpet in his school’s band. He also competed in American football and soccer.
- He started deejaying and rapping in his teens. His first single was Unnecessary Badness.
- He got interested in singing after he was asked to sing a hook during a recording session in a Miami-based studio.
