Lockie Ferguson is a New Zealander professional cricketer who has represented his country primarily in the limited-overs formats of the sport (ODIs and T20Is), as a frontline pace bowler. He was an integral member of the New Zealand squad that had reached the final of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, just the 2nd time that the country had achieved the feat. As of January 2021, he had turned out for New Zealand in a solitary test match, in December 2019, against Australia. He was, however, sidelined by a calf strain that he had sustained in the 2nd session of the first day of that match. In the New Zealand domestic circuit, he has played for his home city team of Auckland (2013–Present) across all 3 formats. In the IPL (Indian Premier League), he has turned out for Rising Pune Supergiant (2017) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (2019–2021). A rare occurrence in modern cricket, Lockie has also played domestic cricket outside of his home country representing teams such as Derbyshire County Cricket Club (2018) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club (2021) in England.

1. He had made his T20I debut for New Zealand in January 2017 in a match against Bangladesh. In that match, he had taken 2 wickets with his first 2 deliveries, becoming only the 2nd player in history to do so. He had also become the 1st New Zealander male cricketer, and just the 14th overall, to have taken a wicket off the very first delivery of his T20I career.
2. Lockie was one of the stars of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and a vital ingredient in New Zealand’s run to the final of the tournament, the country’s 2nd (successive and ultimately unsuccessful) appearance in the tournament’s final. He managed to regularly clock 150 kph and his raw pace had yielded him 21 wickets at a spectacular average of 19.47 and a stellar economy rate of 4.88.
3. Lockie had finished 2nd on the tournament’s leading wicket-takers chart, only behind Mitchell Starc (27 wickets). He was, along with team captain Kane Williamson, included in the ICC’s ‘Team of the Tournament’.
4. In November 2020, in a match against the West Indies, he had picked up his first five-wicket haul in T20I cricket. This was just the 48th instance of a bowler picking up a 5-wicket haul in the history of men’s T20I cricket. To put the rarity of the feat in proper perspective, this was the 1108th men’s match in the T20I format.
5. In February 2022, during the IPL 2022 mega auction, Lockie Ferguson was purchased by the new IPL team Gujarat Titans for INR 10 crores (or INR 100 million).
