  1. He was in his mid-20s when he began his career as a semi-professional footballer. Although considered a relatively old age for a professional debut, he went on to play for many Serie C teams like Entella, Spezia, Viareggio, and Empoli.
  2. Luciano Spalletti retired as a football player in 1993 after being involved in lower-tier football in Italy for around a decade. He remained at Empoli as a coach and served as head coach between July 1993 and June 1998.
  3. From July 1998 to June 1999, he coached Sampdoria. He then coached Venezia from July to October 1999.
  4. In March 2001, Luciano Spalletti started his stint at Udinese and guided the club to a remarkable 4th-placed finish in Serie A during the 2004–05 season.
  5. His success at Udinese attracted attention from Roma and he became the club’s coach in June 2005. He helped the club reach the 2006 Coppa Italia Final.
  6. Luciano Spalletti was elected Serie A Coach of the Year in 2006.
  7. During the 2007–08 Champions League first knockout round, he guided Roma to become the first Italian team to defeat Real Madrid over two legs (2–1 in both ties in Rome and Madrid) and consequently also became the first European side to record two victories over Real Madrid in their Santiago Bernabéu home ground. He eventually resigned from the club on September 1, 2009.
  8. He was confirmed to join Zenit Saint Petersburg on a 3-year deal in December 2009. On March 10, 2014, he was fired from the club following 2 trophy-less seasons.
  9. Replacing Gennaro Gattuso, Luciano Spalletti was announced as the new head coach of Napoli on May 29, 2021. He then guided the club to win Serie A in 2022–23. After that, he was granted a year-long sabbatical from the club at his request.
