- He was raised in a town called “Bumtown” which was located ten miles from Hickory, North Carolina. The town was named that as there was an abundance of people with the surname Bumgarner who had been residing there over the years after their ancestors had settled there from Germany.
- Madison grew up in a log house that was built by his father, sleeping in a loft.
- He was just four years old when he began playing in a youth baseball league. In order for him to do so, Madison’s father had to sign a waiver as the league was for five-to eight-year-olds.
