Malachi Moore Facts

  1. He used to play in both the cornerback and safety positions in his high school football team. In 2019, he was named a USA Today ‘All-American’. In his senior year, he had recorded 80 tackles and 4 interceptions and had been selected to play in the 2020 All-American Bowl, a high school football all-star game, held annually in San Antonio, Texas, and played between all-star teams representing the eastern and western United States.
  2. Later that year, he had committed to the University of Alabama to play college football. He had become a starter during his true freshman year (2020) for the Alabama Crimson Tide team. That year, he was named in the ‘Second Team All-SEC (Southeastern Conference)’ and had also become the CFP (College Football Playoff) national champion. During that season, he had totaled 9 passes defended (3 interceptions, six breakups) to sit joint 3rd in the SEC among all freshman defenders.
  3. In just his 2nd game in the 2020 season, he had registered his first career interception and was selected as the defensive player of the week by the team’s coaches for his play.
  4. Further in the season, in a game against the University of Tennessee, he had scored his first career touchdown after forcing a fumble and returning the loose ball 28 yards for the score. He had also added 2 tackles, including one for loss (-2 yards) while breaking up one pass. The turnover was his 3rd in 5 games as a freshman and had again earned him the ‘defensive player of the week’ recognition from the coaching staff.
  5. At the start of 2021, he had missed the College Football Playoff but had soon made a comeback and his impressive performances had seen him get named to the watchlist for the Nagurski Trophy, awarded annually since 1993 to the collegiate American football defensive player adjudged by the membership of the Football Writers Association of America to be the best in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). He was also selected as a third-team ‘All-American’ in the preseason by Pro Football Focus, a website dedicated to the analysis of senior-level football in the US.
