Mannie Fresh Facts
- Mannie Fresh, inspired by his father, a local street musician, had always dreamed of becoming a professional musician. His parents, recognizing his talent, used to buy him musical instruments instead of toys. He had started out by working as a DJ at school functions and events, house parties, and local clubs. When he was 15 years old, he had joined a local hip crew called New York Incorporated.
- In the late 1980s, he had started a partnership with New Orleans-based rapper MC Gregory D. They had released an album together titled Throwdown in 1987, wherein Gregory had rapped and he had produced the music. By the early 1990s, they would go on to launch 2Â more records.
- In 1993, he had met Bryan Christopher ‘Baby’ Williams aka Birdman who had presented to him an opportunity to become the in-house producer of his record label Cash Money. There, he was primarily involved in the production of records for bands contracted to the label. However, from time to time, he would also produce multiple tracks on the band members’ solo works as well.
- His debut solo studio album, The Mind of Mannie Fresh (2004), consisting of 30 tracks, had peaked at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100, the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by Billboard magazine.
- In 2004, he had parted ways with the record label Cash Money over financial reasons and creative differences. Thereafter, he had joined Def Jam South Recordings, a record label that he went on to have a lengthy association with.
