Priyank Panchal Facts

  1. Priyank’s breakthrough in domestic cricket came during the 2003-04 season when he began competing in the Polly Umrigar Trophy (national under-15 cricket championship). He had participated in the competition for 2 seasons. He had then progressed to the next age-group tier and had scored a century in his last fixture of the Vijay Merchant Trophy (national under-16 cricket championship) in the 2005–06 season.
  2. In February 2008, on his List A debut, in a game against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (the premier domestic List A cricket tournament in India), he had scored 123 runs from 115 balls.
  3. After grinding it out on the domestic circuit for more than a decade, he had come into the national spotlight in the 2016–17 season of the Ranji Trophy (the premier domestic first-class cricket tournament in India) where he had become the first player for Gujarat to score 1,000 runs in a single Ranji Trophy season. He had scored 1,310 runs in just 10 matches, the most by any batter from any team that season. His performance was amplified by the fact that Gujarat had gone on to win the Ranji Trophy title for the first time in history that season.
  4. In November 2016, he had also become the first player to score a triple century for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. He was the leading run-scorer for Gujarat in the 2017–18 season of the Ranji Trophy as well, scoring 542 runs in 7 matches.
  5. He was the leading run-scorer for Gujarat in the 2018–19 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, recording 367 runs in 8 matches.
  6. In August 2019, he had been named the captain of the India Red team for the 2019–20 edition of the Duleep Trophy (a domestic first-class cricket competition originally contested by teams representing geographical zones of India, and since the 2016–17 season by teams chosen by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) selectors).
