- Rune was 7 years old when he started playing football and at the age of 18, he received his first professional contract.
- He played for Strømsgodset Football Club. He played for the team across 5 seasons and was awarded player of the year in 1988.
- Rune then decided to pursue his passion for acting as he quit football after having been a part of Strømsgodset Football Club for 5 years.
