  1. Her appointment on December 10, 2019, made her the youngest Prime Minister of Finland at the age of 34. She took over from her predecessor Antti Rinne, who resigned after the 2019 postal strikes.
  2. Sanna also has other titles such as the ‘Youngest Female State Leader’ and the ‘Second-Youngest Serving State Leader’ as of 2020.
  3. She grew up in a same-s*x family. After her biological parents got divorced, Marin was raised by her mother and her female partner.
  4. She is a vegetarian.
  5. Before her prime ministerial role, she served as the Minister of Transport and Communications from June to December 2019.
  6. Her coalition government is formed with 5 different parties which are all led by women. Apart from her Social Democratic Party, the others are Katri Kulmuni of the Centre Party, Maria Ohisalo of the Green League, Li Andersson of the Left Alliance, and Anna-Maja Henriksson of the Swedish People’s Party.
  7. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, she lived in Prime Minister’s official residence Kesäranta in Helsinki.
  8. In October 2020, she was criticized for wearing a deep cut black blazer (without any top underneath) for a magazine photoshoot named Trendi. But, her fans quickly showed their support for her on Instagram by using the hashtag #imwithsanna.
  9. In August 2022, Sanna was found to be partying, singing, and dancing with Finnish celebrities and many public figures which caused outrage in public. They wanted her to resign. However, according to her, she did everything legal including consuming mild alcoholic beverages. At that time, Finland was reportedly going through record high electricity prices and a lack of healthcare.
  10. In April 2023, Sanna conceded defeat against the National Coalition Party, led by Petteri Orpo, in the 2023 Finnish parliamentary election. Her party, Social Democratic Party came in third during the elections. Later that month, she stepped down as the leader of the Social Democratic Party.
  11. In September 2023, it was revealed that Sanna had quit politics. It was also reported that she had joined the London-based non-profit organization, Tony Blair Institute, as an adviser.
