- She was raised in a middle-class Marathi family in Vadodara.
- Growing up, Sarita was exposed to professional theatre in Marathi and Gujarat. By the age of 7, she had become a part of the New Laxmikant Company of Baroda.
- Sarita got her first lead role at the age of 16.
- She worked as a theatre actress at Khatau Alfred Theatrical Company and Indian National Theatre, Bombay until 1982.
- Sarita made her debut TV show appearance in Trimurti as Shadilal’s Wife No.2 in 1974. Prior to that, in 1967, she was cast as Amba in Parivar.
- Joshi has appeared in more than 150 theatre plays over the years.
- Sarita was presented with a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for “Acting” in Gujarati by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1988. This is India’s National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.
- She was awarded a “Padma Shri” by the Government of India for her contribution to arts in 2020.
