1. Shanmukh’s career in the entertainment industry had started in 2013 when he was featured in a dual role in a video titled The Viva which went viral. One of the characters that he had portrayed there was called Shannu which stuck with the audience and became his nickname. He had started his own YouTube channel in 2012, initially uploading dance covers, short films, and comedy videos.
2. Thereafter, he was featured in various other productions of a company called Infinitum Media, mostly in short films, dance covers, and web series. His major breakthrough came when he again played a character named Shannu in the romantic comedy-drama YouTube series The Software DevLOVEper.
3. The series earned both critical and popular acclaim and had paved the way for him to earn roles in a few TV shows. In February 2021, he was featured in another popular web series titled Surya.
4. Later that month, he was embroiled in a major controversy when it was alleged that he had been driving his vehicle rashly under the influence of alcohol and had caused an accident, injuring a biker. An FIR was registered against him but he was later released on bail.
5. In September 2021, he had joined the 5th season of the reality TV show, Bigg Boss Telugu. It was later reported that he was the highest-paid contestant that season and that the organizers had gone to great lengths to persuade him to participate.

7. In February 2024, he was arrested by police for smoking ganja at his home. Police had gone to his home in Hyderabad to arrest his brother Sampath after a woman filed a complaint that he dated her for many years but married another woman a week before their wedding.
