  1. When Silva was 14, he first attracted the attention of Fluminense coach Maurinho during a friendly match in Xerem. He went on a short trial where he didn’t get enough chance to showcase his talent.
  2. At the age of 15, Thiago went on a tryout for Olaria, Flamengo, and Madureira but was denied by each one of them.
  3. He was also rejected by Botafogo after which he joined the small Brazilian team called Barcelona which competed in the lower leagues in Brazil.
  4. Silva became a professional in 2001 when he started playing in the Brazilian Third Division for RS Futebol Clube.
  5. As a teenager, Silva was wanted by the Italian club, Roma. However, the Brazilian rejected the offer.
  6. He joined Juventude in 2004 where he played for six months.
  7. At the age of 20, the sports magazine Placar named Thiago the 3rd best defender in Brazil. He was also added to the Team of the Season.
  8. In 2004, Silva moved to Porto after the Portuguese club spent 2.5 million euros on his contract.
  9. In 2005, Thiago joined Dynamo Moscow. He didn’t get a chance to play for the first six months as he suffered from tuberculosis and needed to spend time in the hospital. The doctors told him that he would have died if he had come two weeks later. During his recovery process, Silva wanted to retire from football, but his mother convinced him to rethink his decision.
