Zinedine Zidane is a French former professional football player who played as an attacking midfielder. Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he has also served as the manager of La Liga club Real Madrid and is one of the most successful managers in the world.   1. Zinedine’s parents shifted to Paris (in France) from a region called Kabylie in northern Algeria in 1953.
  2. In the mid-1960s, Zidane’s family again changed their living place, this time settling in Marseille (in France).
  3. As a kid, Zizou idolized players such as Blaz Sliskovic, Enzo Francescoli, and Jean-Pierre Papin.
  4. He started playing football at the age of five with a group of children on a football court in the neighborhood he lived in.
  5. When he was 10, Zidane received a license and joined a team named US Saint-Henri. He spent a year and a half in the club before he transferred to SO September-Les-Vallons.
  6. Zidane was spotted by AS Cannes’ agent when he attended a three-day camp at the Regional Centre for Sports and Physical Education (CREPS), a football institution ran by the French Football Federation. At the time, Zizou was 14 years old.
  7. When Zidane first went to AS Cannes, he planned on staying for six weeks, but eventually, six weeks turned into four years and a playing spot in the senior team.
