Amanda Serrano Facts
- Born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Amanda, and her family had moved to New York when she was quite young. During her youth, she was passionate about swimming and had only developed an interest in boxing after her older sister had started getting boxing training to lose weight. She was about 12 years old then.
- Around the time she had graduated from high school, she had intensified her training so that she could bond more with her sister. Her father had fully supported her but her mother was initially hesitant. She later came around to support the idea when she realized that her success in boxing could be the way for Amanda’s older sister to retire from boxing after having her 2nd child.
- Amanda’s amateur career had finished with a 9-1 win-loss record. She had also won the Staten Island Amateur Championship in 2008.
- She and her older sister, Cindy, went on to become the first pair of sisters to hold world titles from major sanctioning bodies at the same time.
- As of September 2021, she was the only female, and Puerto Rican, to win world titles in more than 4 weight classes. She had also held the Guinness World Record for the ‘most number of boxing world championships won in different weight classes by a female’, having held 9 major world titles across 7 different weight classes, as of September 2021.
- She had been honored with the ‘Female Boxer of the Year Award’ by the WBO in both 2016 and 2018. WBO had also granted her the first ‘Super World Championship’ title ever awarded to a female boxer.
- In December 2021, she had landed 236 punches on the face of boxer Miriam Gutierrez’s face, which made her face totally unrecognizable, during a boxing match at the Amalie Arena in Florida. Amanda had won that match after 10 rounds by unanimous decision.
